HD sizes at a glance

All are 16:9 frames; portrait pictures are fitted to the upright version.

  • HD (720p): 1280 × 720 — 0.92 megapixels
  • Full HD (1080p): 1920 × 1080 — 2.07 megapixels
  • QHD (1440p): 2560 × 1440 — 3.69 megapixels
  • 4K UHD: 3840 × 2160 — 8.29 megapixels

Converting a low-resolution picture

“HD” only describes pixel count. Enlarging a 640-pixel photo to 1920 with a classical filter gives the right size but a soft look. AI detail ×4 reconstructs edges first and is then fitted exactly to the frame, which is the closest a browser tool can get to a picture that looks HD rather than merely measures HD.

Questions

Does converting to HD improve quality?

Changing the size alone does not add detail. With the AI engine, edges and texture are rebuilt as the picture is enlarged, which is a real visual improvement for small or soft pictures.

Can I get exactly 1920 × 1080 with no bars?

Switch Size to Pixels, enter 1920 × 1080 and choose Fill & crop (cuts the overflow) or Stretch (distorts). Pad adds bars in a colour you choose.

Will it work for wallpapers?

Yes — pick the size of your screen, choose Fill & crop for edge-to-edge, and save as PNG or high-quality JPEG.

Is my picture uploaded anywhere?

No. Decoding, scaling and encoding all run in this browser tab, and the scaling engine runs in a Web Worker with no network code in it. The only download the site can make for you is an AI model file, and only after you press the button that names its size — that request contains no picture.
